SUBJECT:

UPDATES TO VOLUME 3, RESTRICTED MATERIALS AND PERMITTING: CHLOROPICRIN AND CHLOROPICRIN WITH 1,3-DICHLOROPROPENE (FIELD FUMIGANT) RECOMMENDED PERMIT CONDITIONS

This letter announces the availability of, and summarizes updates to, DPR's Chloropicrin and Chloropicrin with 1,3-Dichloropropene (Field Fumigant) Recommended Permit Conditions from Volume 3, Restricted Materials and Permitting, one of eight volumes of the Pesticide Use Enforcement Program Standards Compendium. Updates are enclosed and are also available online at the link provided below. Please have your staff begin using these updates as soon as possible. Hard copies of the updates will not be distributed.

The recommended permit conditions have been updated to restrict buffer zone reduction credits for post application water treatments when such credits are listed on the labeling of chloropicrin and chloropicrin with 1,3-Dichloropropene products. The updated permit conditions allow label buffer zone credits for water treatments only for untarped applications, and applications that are tarped only in beds or strips. In contrast, label buffer zone reduction credits for water treatments are not allowed for tarped broadcast applications.

To print the updates, select from the enclosures or go to www.cdpr.ca.gov/docs/enforce/compend/vol_3/rstrct_mat.htm. It is recommended the sections be printed back-to-back, where applicable. For best results, print each section separately. Remove the old section from Volume 3 and insert the new section:

  • Volume 3 - Restricted Materials and Permitting Updates, Replacement Page Instructions, July 2013
  • Appendix C.7, Subsection C.7.4 - Chloropicrin and Chloropicrin with 1,3-Dichloropropene (Field Fumigant) Recommended Permit Conditions

If you have any questions, please contact the Enforcement Branch Liaison assigned to your county.

Sincerely,
