Implementing AB 1717, Structural Pest Control County Registration

AB 1717 (Chapter 338, Statutes of 2007) was signed by Governor Schwarzenegger to broaden regulatory tools necessary to keep pace with issues and concerns associated with structural pesticide use.

Effective January 1, 2008, structural pest control businesses and certain structural pest control licensees must register with each county before conducting business in that county. The new law adds Food and Agriculture Code (FAC) section 15204.5 and amends sections 15204 and 13000, establishing a county registration requirement to replace the previous county notification process.

Enclosed is the guidance document “Implementing AB 1717 – Structural Pest Control” to assist counties in implementing the requirements. The new and amended sections of law will be formatted and included in the Pesticide Use Enforcement Program Standards Compendium, Volume II (Laws and Regulations).
