Seasonal Guide to Environmentally Responsible Pest Management Practices in Almonds
A guide to help almond growers make environmentally responsible pest management decisions year-round without decreasing their yields or increasing their reject levels has recently been published by the University of California (enclosed).
The seasonal guide summarizes practices demonstrated in a five-year project funded with $476,000 in Pest Management Alliance grants from the California Department of Pesticide Regulation (DPR). The Almond Pest Management Alliance, which coordinated the demonstrations, is a public/private partnership of University of California Cooperative Extension (UCCE) farm advisors and area Integrated Pest Management (UC Statewide IPM Program) advisors, the Almond Board of California, the Almond Hullers and Processors Association, and DPR.
Publication of the guide was made possible by a Pesticide Environmental Stewardship Program (PESP) grant provided to DPR by U.S. EPA Region 9. Copies of the guide have been mailed to almond growers throughout the state and distributed to growers attending the Almond Board’s annual research conference December 1-2, 2005. The guide (UC ANR Publication 21619) can be ordered from the University of California by calling 1 (800) 994-8849 or on their Web site at https://anrcatalog.ucdavis.edu.
A limited number of copies are also available by contacting Mr. Bob Elliott, of my staff, by phone at (916) 324-4156 or e-mail at belliott@cdpr.ca.gov.
