Notice of Additional Materials and Extension of Comment Period for the Proposed Pollinator Protection Mitigation Measures for Use of Nitroguanidine-Substituted Neonicotinoids in Agricultural Crops

The Department of Pesticide Regulation (DPR) held webinars on August 11 and 12, 2020, to gather feedback from the public and other stakeholders on proposed pollinator protection mitigation measures for uses of the nitroguanidine-substituted neonicotinoids in agricultural crops. To provide additional background information on the proposal, DPR has made the following additional materials available:

1. DPR contracted with the California Department of Food and Agriculture’s Office of Pesticide Consultation and Analysis to provide an economic analysis of various mitigation alternatives. The first economic analysis report, dated August 26, 2019, is based on DPR’s Neonicotinoid Risk Determination document and estimates the economic effects of the theoretical prohibition of high risk uses of four neonicotinoid insecticides on nine major California commodities. The second economic analysis report, dated July 29, 2020, is based on the specific mitigation measure proposal and estimates the economic effects of the proposed regulations to mitigate the risk to bees of four neonicotinoid insecticides on eight major California commodities.
